AutoRent Hertz AU Campers Rental Terms for travel between May. 01, 2011 and Apr. 30, 2013

Important Information About Your Rentals

On arrival you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the operators of AutoRent Hertz Australia. Here is a summary of their terms and conditions.

Definitions
The following definitions apply for the Terms and Conditions for AutoRent Hertz Australia.

  • The Supplier means the operator of AutoRent Hertz Australia.
  • The Client is also referred to as the hirer (s) or renter (s).
Payment Terms
Payments at the start of the rental go towards time, km and sundries such as fuel and taxes. At the start of the rental, we also take a AU$200 deposit, over and above the estimated cost of the rental. Payment may be made by debit card or by credit card swipe (MasterCard, American Express and Visa) or cash . At the end of the rental, all charges are added up, deducted from the amount originally paid, and the balance is collected or refunded. Refunds are made by the same method as the deposit was paid. Diners Charge Cards get imprinted on the Rental Agreement at the start, but no deposit is collected; instead, all costs are charged to the card account at the end of the rental. If paying by Credit Card or Charge Card, when you sign the Rental Agreement you authorise us to debit your card account for all costs payable under the Rental Agreement.

Cancellation policy
The initial deposit paid is non-refundable. In addition to forfeiting your deposit, the following charges also apply:
- More than 33 days from start of rental – no further fee
- 10-33 days from start of rental - AU$200
- Under 10 days from start of rental – 50% of rental cost
- 3 days from start of rental, or “no-show” – 100% of rental cost
If vehicle is returned early for any reason whatsoever - no refund
(We reserve the right to refuse provision of a replacement vehicle in the event of an accident – no refund of the unused days)

Travel insurance
We strongly recommend that clients ensure they take out the highest level of travel insurance. In many cases this will cover any losses incurred if you are forced to cancel your booking.

Our rates include:
- Federal GST.
- Unlimited kilometres.
- 3-Berth Campervan and all Motorhomes ONLY: Cover against vehicle loss/damage above the first $5,000; there’s a higher liability for loss/damage/accidents on unsealed roads, and for overhead damage on sealed or unsealed roads.
- 2-Berth Campervan with low roof ONLY: Cover against vehicle loss/damage above the first $3,300; there’s a higher liability for loss/damage/accidents on unsealed roads, and for overhead damage on sealed or unsealed roads.

- Hobart Airport Location Fee.
- Launceston Airport Location Fee.
- LP Gas – The renter is supplied with a full cylinder and is not required to re-fill prior to return.
- Crockery, cutlery.

Our rates do not include:
- Liability Reduction Fee

3-Berth Campervan and all Motorhomes ONLY
The renter has the option of paying an extra $25 per day to us, at the start of the rental, to reduce the vehicle loss/damage liability from $5,000 to $2,500.

Alternatively, the renter will have the option of paying $40 per day to reduce the liability from $5,000 to $0 (includes tyre and windscreen damage buyout).

2-Berth Campervan with low roof ONLY
The renter has the option of paying an extra $25 per day to us, at the start of the rental, to reduce the vehicle loss/damage liability from $3,300 to $440.

Alternatively, the renter will have the option of paying $40 per day to reduce the liability from $3,3000 to $0 (includes tyre and windscreen damage buyout).

- Liability for Damage
Liability applies to all rentals as specified in the Rental Agreement. This means that regardless of fault, all damage up to the limit of the liability amount is the renter’s responsibility. This includes any tyre, windscreen or headlight damage and any other internal or external damage not attributable to fair wear and tear, such as returning the vehicle in an abnormally dirty condition (including hair, odour and other evidence of animals).

There’s a higher liability on unsealed roads and for overhead damage.
Unsealed Roads: Regardless of fault, if there’s an accident, damage or loss on an unsealed road, the renter’s liability will be up to a maximum of $9900.00. If they reduce their sealed road liability to $0, then a maximum liability of $9900 will remain for loss/damage/accidents on unsealed roads.
Overhead Damage (See General Terms and Conditions): Regardless of fault, the renter remains liable up to a maximum of $9900.00 whether the overhead damage is incurred on a sealed, or an unsealed, road. Their liability for overhead damage or damage on unsealed roads remains, even if their sealed road liability has been reduced to $0.

Underbody damage and damage caused by water immersion are NOT covered by insurance and remain the renter’s responsibility.

The renter remains responsible for the cost of replacing lost vehicle keys and remote door opening devices or recovering keys locked in the vehicle (and for any towage involved as a result of keys being lost or inaccessible). This extra cost can range from $165 to $1100 (incl. GST) depending on the vehicle type (and is over and above any liability reduction option they may have accepted).

- Fuel – Payment for fuel supplied at the start, and used during the course of the rental, remains the renter’s responsibility.

- Taxes and levies – We’ll be recovering any port/airport turnover fees that may be applicable or introduced, where not included in the rates.

Additional items payable at the rental counter
- Extra Driver Fee - $3 per day for each additional driver (in addition to the person appearing on the Rental Agreement as The Renter). Payable at the rental counter.

- Baby seats/capsules/booster seats –  Supplied at a charge of $16.50 each, per day (maximum $66.00 per rental), payable to us at the start of the rental.  INCLUDE WITH YOUR RESERVATION REQUEST.  Payable at the rental counter.

- Irons/chairs/picnic tables – Supplied at a charge of $1 per day each (maximum $10 per item per rental), payable to us at the start of the rental. INCLUDE WITH YOUR RESERVATION REQUEST.  Payable at the rental counter.

- The Hertz Neverlost system is now available in Tasmania. May be hired at a cost of $15.40 PER DAY (maximum $154.00 per rental). INCLUDE WITH YOUR RESERVATION REQUEST.
Please note: The new 2-Berth Campervan with low roof features a GPS system, free of charge.

- Bedding and Linen – a Personal Kit that includes 1 towel, pillow and pillowcase, sleeping bag/doona*, bed sheet, is available at a cost of $38 per person 3 years and over (supplied free of charge to infants under 3 years). *A doona is not provided with the 2-Berth Campervan with low roof - sleeping bag only.  INCLUDE WITH YOUR RESERVATION REQUEST.  Payable at the rental counter.

Other Important Conditions
- Deposits – At the start of the rental we obtain an authorisation on the renter’s card equivalent to the estimated cost of the rental (including any liability reduction options they might accept) plus $200. The renter will need to make sure there are sufficient funds in their account to allow pre-authorisation, because this amount is "frozen" and therefore won't be available to the renter as credit during the course of their rental.

At the end of the rental, the finalised rental cost will be debited to their card.

- Bonds – There’s no bond to pay in advance towards loss/damage. The renter’s liability is payable at the time of any loss/damage but not beforehand.

- Age limits – Minimum 21; maximum 75.  Each jurisdiction legislates an age at which drivers must be tested yearly.  For renters over 75 at the time of the rental, we need a Doctor’s Certificate certifying the renter is fit to drive.

- Driving licence – Our vehicles may be driven only by renters who have held a current licence for at least 3 years.

Drivers must present a licence issued in English, or a foreign driver’s licence in English (or an accompanying certified English translation, provided by a Consulate or other authorised body), or a current International Driving Permit.

Provisional Licences are not accepted.

- Frequent Flyer Points are not available on these rates.

- All rentals are subject to the terms and conditions of our rental agreement. We reserve the right to refuse provision of a vehicle if we doubt that the renter will safely and properly use it.

We also reserve the right to refuse provision of a replacement vehicle in the event of an accident – no refund of the unused days.

- Personal Kits – it’s most important, and in the clients’ best interests, that your reservation request includes an advice as to whether or not Personal Kits are required. If they are, please advise the number needed.

Otherwise, it’s often the case that renters arrive to start their rental to find that no bedding and linen has been reserved even though actually needed.

All hire costs for optional extras, including child restraints, Personal Kits  and Neverlost, remain subject to increase.

Terms of booking on this website

Information disclaimer
The rates on this website are often heavily discounted. This is due to our negotiated rates and bulk buying power. On very rare occasions, a rate may be displayed incorrectly due to our, or a vehicle supplier's error. In such a case, if you book with us at a quoted rate that is incorrect, we will notify you of any price change and give you the option to proceed or cancel. We make every effort to keep information on our site up to date, but we cannot guarantee this website is free of errors or omissions and retain the right to update or change the information published at any time.

Liability
To the extent permitted by law we/the owners of this website will not be liable to you or to any third party (whether in contract, tort, or otherwise) for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage (including but not limited to any accident, injury, delay or loss of enjoyment) arising out of your reliance upon information contained on this website, including but not limited to your use (or inability to use) any products or services described or procured through this website.

When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. Your rental and use of the vehicle will be governed by the terms of the rental agreement and any other documentation or information provided to you by the supplier at the time you pick up your vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier’s rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.

While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.

Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed. Please note that a 1.75% credit card charge will be added when your payment is processed.

A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.

If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

Information disclosure
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.

Amendments
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Motorhome rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 75.00
To add or remove extras to/from confirmed booking: 20.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.

Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.

Refund Policy
We are committed to providing a quality service and aim for complete customer satisfaction. In the event of cancellation, any refunds or penalties are detailed in the terms and conditions of your selected vehicle that you are asked to read and accept at time of booking. In the event you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.
